Daenna Van Mulligen (aka The Wine Diva)
Feature Articles - Daenna lives in Vancouver where she works as a wine writer. She is recognized via her alter-ego Wine Diva www.winediva.ca a tongue-in-cheek wine website geared toward her very serious passion for all things wine. Daenna is an accredited sommelier who thrives on educating the public with her deviously inspirational and humorous approach to wine in an effort to increase consumer consumption while decreasing wine snobbery. Daenna also regularly contributes to Vines Magazine, Taste Magazine and Infamous Magazine.
Sandy Copping
Reviewer and Feature Articles - Having grown up with a father who was a professional cook, excellent food, made from scratch, was the rule at Sandy's house. Food experiences in Europe, Asia, and North America have shaped this discerning palate. She has previously provided critiques for the Zagat restaurant guides.
Keith Lee
Reviewer - Born in Saigon, South Vietnam, Keith moved to B.C. at a young age and grew up in North Burnaby and graduated from SFU. Cooking for others and entertaining is one of his passions. A self described food fanatic, he believes in the motto of Live to eat, not Eat to live. As a Type I diabetic, he is always cognizant of his special dietary needs, but is not a slave to it. Finding that great tasting, sugar free dessert is one of his life long goals - he is still searching. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his wife and 2 small children, work out at the gym, play poker and ride his motorcycle.
Becky Solomon
Feature Articles - At six years old Becky Solomon bought her first cookbook not surprising, since her parents were already humouring her request for wine with dinner, albeit diluted with lots of water. Her experience in the restaurant and wine businesses comes from her years as a food buyer and a marketer at Earls, and as a marketer at White Spot where she was on the team that launched the chain in Alberta. She has completed culinary and pastry classes at the Northwest Culinary Academy, and has an Intermediate Certificate in Wine from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. She is a contributing writer to Vendor Magazine, a western Canada liquor trade publication, and her wine blog www.beckysolomon.blogspot.com is read in 40 countries.
Sheila G LoGuisto
Editor/Feature Articles - With a degree in English Literature and experience as an advertising copywriter Sheila was well on her way to a career in the media when a fork in the road led her to an equally successful career in the Public Service. She now focuses on her first love, writing. In addition to her humorous and incisive political satire spoofs she also contributes regularly to FoodVancouver.com. Her international travels and love of various cuisines have helped to sharpen her palate. At home, she loves to entertain family and friends to her culinary creations. Her motto is "Keep it organic, clean and simple but don't hesitate to experiment with your very own blend of secret herbs and seasonings".
Leslie Horne
Feature Articles - Leslie was a Foodie at heart, prior to starting her career in the food service industry nearly ten years ago. She is also passionate about health and the environment, with a focus on eating local and organic foods. If she's not flipping through cookbooks or wandering through the local markets, she can be found dining around town looking for the cities best local, organic and seasonal ingredients.
Geoff Peters
Reviewer - Vancouver-born, and a resident of Burnaby BC, Geoff
combines a love of food with skills in writing, web site design, programming, photography, and music.
Dana Mahon
Feature Articles - Dana is originally from Winnipeg where she studied physical education and sport studies before moving to Toronto to pursue further education in wellness and health promotion. Since moving to Vancouver, Dana's passion for writing has led her to some very exciting projects including interviews with David Foster, Jason Priestley and Terry David Mulligan. Dana has a love both for food and her pen and looks forward to marrying the two as she continues on her writing journey.
Lisa DeVita
Feature Articles - A terror in the kitchen, and as a result, a restaurant addict, Lisa DeVita has been a freelance writer for the past five years. With a diploma in Writing for Film and Television, Lisa started out as a contract resume writer and eventually moved into creative non-fiction. Lisa's work has been published in both print and web-based environments and covers a wide variety of subject matter including travel, entertainment, poker, insects and food.
Cassandra Anderton
Feature Articles - grew up in the Okanagan Valley long before it became known as the Napa of the North (It is however rumoured that there are some vines in the Valley slightly older than her). She ventured into wine industry after studying for Level 1 and 2 of her sommelier by taking on the role of opening manager of a VQA wine store. She currently writes for various Pacific Northwest Magazines.

Food Seattle Select Guide: Preparing for Summer

In this edition of Food Seattle Select Guide we offer some quick and simple tips for summer entertaining. Our motto is simple: when it comes to entertaining the secret to success is to keep things basic, casual and fun. Forget the fancy dinner settings with matched china and silverware; formal floral table arrangements and 5-course menus, make use of what you have (plates, glasses, tablecloths). For table ornaments put out bowls of lemons or fruit or small glass jars filled with fragrant herbs like rosemary, mint or parsley. Simple doesn’t have to mean cheap or tacky; it can be elegant and memorable. After all summer entertaining should be about having fun – and that includes you!
